A big hello and welcome to foundation stage 1
We would like to welcome everyone to a new year in Foundation. We have loads of exciting things planned and loads of learning and exploration opportunities throughout our unit.
For the majority of the sessions we choose when and where we play, either inside or out. We aim to play outside in all weathers so please remember your coat and wellies on rainy days.
We learn through play which is structured to ensure progress is made in all areas of our development. We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum for which details can be found online.
Each day when we arrive at school we look for our name tag and pop it in the box. This way of self-registration helps with name recognition and encourages independence. We then get down to playing and exploring. We have water and sand exploration, creative area, a mark making station, a role play area (home corner), Funky fingers area to help with fine motor skills, painting and messy play activities.
We have milk and fruit time and share stories and song throughout the week and on a Friday, someone will be the ‘star of the week’ and will receive a certificate and small prize.
This term we are introducing our ‘Number of the week’. This will begin with the number one and will change each week. We will emphasise the given number when talking, singing and sharing stories. We are also having a ‘Letter of the Week’ which we will begin with the letter ‘S’. Again, each letter will be emphasised throughout our environment. We will have a table display and welcome items beginning with the weekly letter.
We pride ourselves on making everything so much fun at Stanhope and we encourage everyone to ‘have-a-go’ and try new activities. We encourage following our interests and learning through play.
If anyone has any questions, or any suggestions for our environment, please let us know. We have an open-door policy and welcome parents and carers any time.
From the Foundation staff.
Foundation Stage 1 Non-negotiables
Non-negotiables are the minimum expectations that pupils must attain by the end of the year. Our non-negotiables in Foundation Stage 1 have been designed with age appropriate expectations in mind. Detailed below are the basics that help children make progress and access learning, as well as preparing children for the next stage in their learning.
