The Speaking and Listening Competition has become a annual event on the Stanhope Calendar. This year, every child performed a poem to their own class - what a variety! Some children had written their own poem; some were read beautifully; some were recited from memory; some children brought in props; and one child recited a poem in his first language, Arabic. We had two events, one for Key Stage One children and another for Key Stage Two children. At each event all of the finalists received a trophy for taking part and the judges had the very difficult job of choosing an overall winner.
Being a listener and providing a 'Quality Audience' is just as important as speaking and performing well and top listeners were also awarded prizes.
Over the years that the Speaking and Listening Competition has been running it has lead to an improvement in confidence in speaking in front of an audience and this is reflected in the classroom, assemblies and larger performances and events.
