Reception

Welcome to our Reception Class!

Reception at Stanhope is made up of 60 lovely children! We split up into 2 classes for carpet time activities, such as Phonics and Maths, but we are all together as one big class for the majority of the day. Our teachers are Miss Walter and Mrs Jeffery and our Teaching Assistants are Miss Alyson, Mrs Smith and Kay. We are also taught by Mrs D on a Wednesday afternoon when our teachers have their PPA time. We will update our class page weekly so you can see all the fantastic things we have been learning.

Autumn 2

Welcome back to our second half term at Stanhope!

A big thank you and well done to everybody who completed our 'Autumn' themed home learning activities. We have thoroughly enjoyed looking at all of your absolutely beautiful and creative leaf collages.

Our first week of learning will be planned around the theme of Bonfire night and for the rest of the half term we are continuing our 'Traditional Tales' topic. We will be reading lots of stories including Little Red Riding Hood and The Gingerbread Man, as well as having a 'Winter Week' and of course - lots of Festive fun!

Getting Festive in Reception!

We have started getting festive in Reception Class. We have an advent calender and a special Elf from the North Pole called Otis! We enjoyed singing Christmas songs as Mrs Smith played the guitar and we decorated our classroom tree.

Little Red Riding Hood

This week we have read the story of the Little Red Riding Hood. We have been retelling the story using masks, props and dressing up clothes. We made our own Little Red Riding Hood baskets for Golden time and filled these with cupcakes! In maths, we have been ordering numbers 0-20.

Autumn 1

We welcome you back to Stanhope and hope you all had a lovely summer.

All of the children have settled in at school amazingly well and all of our teachers are so proud of us! We are excited for an amazing year in Reception!

So far we have been doing lots of work based on the topic 'All about Me'. We have been getting to know each other, writing our name and talking about our families. Lots of children have also been enjoying the beautiful Autumn season by collecting conkers and leaves!

Our topic for the whole Autumn Term is Traditional Tales. We will be reading lots of familiar stories such as Three Little Pigs, Goldilocks and the Three Bears and The Three Billy Goats Gruff. We will also be learning about Harvest and linking this to The Little Red Hen. Towards the end of the Half term we will be having an 'Autumn Week'.

Thank you to everyone who shared in our Remembrance Day Learning - beautiful poppies created and displayed around school to help us think about this special day.
