Personal Development at Stanhope

Stanhope has a coherent and appropriate programme of personal development which extends across the taught curriculum. This is underpinned by the One Life Personal Development programme.

ONE LIFE has been designed to develop physical, social and mental fitness in children. Our young people are growing up in an increasingly challenging world and now, more than ever, we need to ensure that they know how to build their physical, mental and social fitness, so that they can live their ‘ONE LIFE’ well. The clear end goal of the programme is to ensure that all pupils know how to live a healthy, safe and happy life and know to manage their academic, personal and social lives in a positive way.

There are two elements to the programme:

1. A daily Morning Routine which takes place as soon as the children arrive on a morning

2. A weekly lesson that focuses upon different aspects of physical, social and emotional fitness (this is our PSHE lesson)

The whole programme supports an Educational Psychology Service mission, of ‘Relate to Educate,’ which helps schools to build the intentional culture whichenables children to develop, learn, adapt and thrive. This of course links to our "Behaviour and Belonging Curriculum." The founder of the programme can be heard talking here.

1. The Morning Routine:

2. A weekly lesson is based around six half termly themes. There are resources which children and staff work through linked to each of the themes and parents are sent a half termly overview.

The ONE LIFE personal development programme underpins our personal development offer however much more goes on to support the ambition that we support children be their best selves through our provision.
