Curriculum
Curriculum Vision & Principles:
At Stanhope, we have a high-quality, ambitious curriculum for all pupils constructed using the Flying High Curriculum framework which is underpinned by current research and an enquiry-based approach. This curriculum has been adopted as a foundation to develop a bespoke "Stanhope based" curriculum adapted to meet the needs of our school community.
Our curriculum vision is “Creating a love of learning for LIFE!” In order to achieve this vision, our curriculum is underpinned by our LIFE principles: L = Language Driven (both spoken and written) / I = Inclusive and Diverse / F = Fuels Ambition / E = Empowered by Knowledge. These LIFE principles are rooted in an intent to ensure that the large scale of represented needs in our school community are met.

We explore concepts throughout a sequential and cumulative curriculum; revisiting them in a wide range of contexts and through the lenses of different subjects in order to promote a deeper understanding and enable the transfer of knowledge to the long-term memory. Decisions about the curriculum are constantly evaluated: refined over time, based on evidence and insight from within and beyond the school. Our curriculum approach is informed by the below thinking:

At Stanhope, we aim that pupils build strong foundations for accessing the curriculum through communication and language, reading, writing and mathematics. Through our core subject curriculum delivery, termly enquiry approach built around "driver" and "enhancer" subjects and the wider discrete curriculum, we want to ensure every child enjoys learning at Stanhope!
Our school is unique due to our strong commitment to personal development through the One Life programme. Every day starts with a daily routine which includes a meet and greet with the class teacher. We explicitly teach regulation techniques so that children understand their emotional responses to situations and can manage them more effectively throughout our primary school and into later life. In addition to our daily One Life routine, we follow the One Life PSHE Personal Development programme. Find out more about this within our Personal Development tab under "Curriculum."

2026-2027 Long Term Curriculum Overview
The curriculum is carefully designed and we follow an enquiry approach where each enquiry is led by a 'Driving Subject'. Each termly enquiry has a different subject driver:
- Autumn Term - History Driver
- Spring Term - Geography Driver
- Summer Term - Arts Driver
Other subjects are taught as 'Enhancers' (whereby the subject will add something to the enquiry) or are taught discretely. We ensure the coverage, progression and retention of key knowledge throughout the curriculum with a focus on "sticky knowledge" which is displayed in every classroom on our Enquiry working walls and on our termly Enquiry Knowledge Organisers which are sent home to parents.

Key Knowledge Progression Documents
Below are copies of the FHP Key Knowledge Progression Documents (KKPD's) that we have implemented throughout school. These have been used to map out our curriculum to ensure knowledge is taught in a sequential manner to allow children to revisit knowledge over their time at Stanhope. This has an ultimate aim that the children will know and remember more over time.
You will notice that each progression document starts with Nursery and ends with Year 7. We are very keen to ensure our work aligns as closely as possible to the curriculum of our local secondary schools.
