How We Work with Parents

How we work with our parents

Developing strength in parent partnership

Here at Stanhope Primary and Nursery School, we believe that parents and staff working together in partnership is essential to a child’s individual needs being fully met. These are some of the ways in which we work with parents and carers:

Open Door Policy

At Stanhope we promote an open door policy to encourage parents and carers to be involved within the school community.

In addition to parents’ consultation evenings, we promote a positive relationship between school staff and parents therefore invite parents into school to discuss their child.

In order to maintain the smooth timings of the school day, we ask that parents/carers contact the school office on 0115 955 3440 or via email to office@stanhope.notts.sch.uk to request a call back or an appointment with your child’s class teacher.

'Meet the teacher' Meetings

Each class has a ‘Meet the Teacher’ meeting at the beginning of each academic year as an opportunity for parents/carers to meet the staff teaching the children.

Within these meetings, focus is placed on:
– The curriculum taught to this year group
– Organisation including planned Educational Visits and PE days
– Homework expectations
– Introduction to key members of staff

Flying High Together events

Each year at Stanhope, Flying High Together events are held in every year group. These opportunities bring together our children, staff and families for an afternoon of engagement and learning together.

Teachers plan the Flying High Together events around the arts / sciences / sports and wider curriculum to engage children in all subjects taught in school.

Events are planned in advance and are shared on our newsletter with the dates for your diary.

Friday Book Share with the Headteacher and Deputy Headteacher

Once a term, pupils are welcomed to come and listen to a story along with their parents/carers or family members. This is an excellent opportunity for children to enjoy listening to a book being read to them and a great chance for parent/carers to ask any questions about ways in which they can support their child at home with reading.

Dates of these events are shared on the newsletter and via our Twitter feed.

Stanhope Stars Celebration

Friday afternoons are very special at Stanhope Primary. We hold an achievement assembly to recognise all the children’s hard work throughout the week in a dedicated Celebration Assembly linked to our school values.

Within this assembly, we celebrate our Stanhope Way awards, celebrate birthdays, attendance and share the wonderful out of school achievements of our children.

We welcome all parents, carers and family members to the assemblies to celebrate these great achievements and look forward to seeing lots of familiar faces celebrate our wonderful children!

Parent/Carer Consultation Meetings

Parent/Carer consultation meetings are held in the autumn and spring term at Stanhope.

These meetings are a great opportunity for class teachers to share information about how your child is progressing at school, their development and targets in order to achieve their full potential.

We strongly encourage all parents/carers to attend these meetings in order to raise the importance of schooling to children and to allow parents/carers to understand how to best support children whilst at home.

Teachers send out individual child’s school reports in the summer term ready for the children to transition to their next stage of education.

Friends of Stanhope School (FOSS)

At Stanhope Primary, we are very fortunate to have a wonderful PTFA who invest a significant amount of time further developing our school. The PTFA hold a range of different events throughout the year to raise engagement and enjoyment of community spirit and fundraise to further enhance our school.

The PTFA are always keen to involve new members into their work so please contact the academy office to speak with one of our PTFA members.

Spaces in all year groups available. If you would like to visit the school and become part of our wonderful Stanhope Community, please contact the school office on 0115 9553440.
