Reading

In Year 3 we value reading and not only understand how important it is for us as learners but the importance of becoming life long readers. Our teachers loves books and reading and they want to help us all love reading books as much as they do!

In our whole class guided reading sessions, which we do everyday, we focus on key reading skills to help us dig deep into short sections of text and become cracking comprehenders! To help you out there is a document you can download on this page filled with questions that will help us be even better readers.

We have also been learning about the rights of the reader. Reading is only fun when the reader is control of what they choose to read, where they choose to read, how they choose to read and sometimes who they choose to read with. Every day, we have reading choice where we have the opportunity to choose any book we want to read  (this includes fiction, non-ficiton, poetry, comics, newspapers and our favourite - picture books!) and choose to either sit and read a book quietly or share a book with our friends. This gives us the chance to talk about books, share our opinions and helps to make us better readers.

We are looking forward to showing families round our school, ready for the September 2024 Reception intake. You can book a visit by contacting the school office on 0115 9553440.
