Science activities

Here are 3 different lessons on materials.

Please choose when you would like to do them.

You could begin by walking around your home and garden to see what materials you can spot.

You will need to collect some objects from around your home, if possible some raw materials, like a piece of wood, glass, metal and rock.

For the first activity watch the PPT Naming materials.

Then sort the materials using the labels. Make extra labels if needed.

Then match the label to the material and finally label the pictures using the words given.

The second activity is about identifying what materials objects are made from.

First watch the PPT Objects and materials

Then cut out the pictures and stick them on the Venn diagram.

Next fill in the missing words.

Then draw and label 3 objects and write a sentence explaining what the objects are made from.

The third activity is a challenge.

We thought of some questions in class that we would like to find the answer to.

Have a look and see how many answers you can find.

Please have a go at at least one part of each activity.

We are looking forward to showing families round our school, ready for the September 2024 Reception intake. You can book a visit by contacting the school office on 0115 9553440.
