Reading at home

By the end of Year 1, children should be confidently reading Turquoise 17 books! For this reason, we encourage the children to read at home daily. Please support your child by spending 10-20 minutes reading with them at home every day. This really does help the children to make fantastic progress in their reading. This also helps prepare them  for the Year 1 phonics screening check in June, and the SATs in Year 2.

For every multiple of 10 reads completed at home, your child will earn the following prizes:

10: smelly sticker

20: super pencil

30: dip in the box

40: ice lolly

50: certificate

60: dip in the box

70: sweet treat

80: reading area pass

90: tea party in the staff room

100: a new book!

If you need any guidance on the best way to support your child's reading at home please do not hesitate to ask your child's teacher.
